Building a Bright Future for Nicaragua

“Until people can drink clean water and have a safe latrine to use, they can’t even think about the businesses they can create.Until people no longer have to spend hours each day getting water and wood, they have no time for other work,” says the Sullivan Family.

The Sullivan Family sees in El Porvenir an opportunity to improve the future of Nicaragua by investing in water and sanitation infrastructure.“El Porvenir” means the future, and we believe there is a bright future for Nicaragua.

  • Rosa of Casa Viejas had dropped out of school in the 6th grade because she was too occupied every day fetching water from a faraway spring.Once her village had a central well, Rosa went back to school and became a teacher. She now teaches other children in Casa Viejas.

  • Ezequiel, a 6th grader, was sick from a water-related illness for eight days.He was afraid the teacher would erase him from the attendance list. Now that his village has clean drinking water, he rarely misses school. He aspires to go to university, a big goal since 3.6 years of schooling is the average in rural Nicaragua.

We need your help to make sure that more Nicaraguans will have clean water to drink and a safe place to go to the bathroom.Every $1 spent on water, sanitation, and health/hygiene education generates $8-12 in saved time, increased productivity, improved education, and reduced health care costs.

Our goal for the future of Nicaragua is a vibrant country with healthy citizens able to contribute to their economy. This starts with clean water, with improved sanitation—and with YOU!
